Avid Software
The OS is XP Home, which I keep up to date with service packs and patches.
The main commercial product applications are:
Control from the Pocket PC is provided by three related products:
- Girder
(which runs on the server)
- NetRemote
(which runs on the Pocket PC)
- Tonto (which acts as the editor
for NetRemote screens, and comes bundled with NetRemote)
Both Girder and NetRemote are open extensible products and all three are
designed to work together to provide a complete remote control solution.
Girder has a large selection of 3rd party
plugs-ins, some of which I am
also using:
- LUA Events
- LUA Socket library
- MBM (which accesses temperature data from the shareware
MotherBoard Monitor)
- SetWaveDev to dynamically switch the sound output between the TV and
HiFi speakers
- DigiTV, originally written by me, but now substantially re-written and
vastly improved by John Hind.
Finally, there is the software written by me. These comprise four NetRemote drivers (plug-ins) which extend the functionality of
NetRemote. Two of these four also come with matching server components
which run on the HTPC.
The drivers are:
- AvidUtils - a set of general-purpose additions to NetRemote, adding
more powerful text handling, drop-down menus, timer capability, etc.
- Zoom - to allow direct control of (and feedback from) the Zoom Player
from within NetRemote.
- PlayPick - to allow media files (such as TV recordings) to be selected
from a list and played with a choice of player programs.
- EPG - to present an Electronic Program Guide for DigiTV on the Pocket PC
and allow recordings to be scheduled and managed.
Before switching to JRMC, I had been using Windows Media Player for my music
jukebox and CD. To support this, I developed:
- WMP9 - to allow direct control of (and feedback from) the Windows Media
Player from within NetRemote.
All the software written by me is available for
download, complete with source
which is released under the
MIT license.
